When you think about weight loss, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Is it hardcore cardiovascular exercise (cardio)? Is it intense weight training with machines and free weights? Or possibly a strict diet of vegetables and lean meats? The solution to effective weight loss is both simple and complex.
The simplicity of it is this: weight loss consists of 70% diet and 30% exercise. The complexity of weight loss is in designing an effective weight loss plan with each component in moderation.
The first step in designing a weight loss diet is to dispel your current definition of a diet. You are not going to get on a diet for 2 months and then go back to eating normal. From now on your diet refers to the way you eat on a daily basis. Instead of going on a fad diet, you will change your daily eating habits to that of a healthy adult. You will increase your protein consumption, decrease your fat and carbohydrate consumption, eat 5 small meals, and drink a gallon of water a day.
These four actions will inherently function to both reduce your daily caloric intake, and increase the calories burned by the metabolic processes in your body. Remember, calories in must be less than calories out in order for your diet to work properly. Restricting calories for a couple weeks is a surefire way to kick start your new healthy eat habits diet.
Well there are a number of different factors involved when we go on a diet or pills or plan, and the bad thing is that the process is crippled as soon as it begins. The first thing that we usually lose on these diets plans and pills is water weight. Now obviously the human body is made up mostly of water. So losing water weight doesn't have any kind of long term benefits for us. But as I said on most diet plans, this is the first thing to go.
The next thing we lose is huge and I want to ask this question first, "Have you ever been a yo-yo dieter? That is, have you gone up and down in weight because of a weight loss plan or diet?" I can say for myself that I have gone up and down in weight my entire life. I have been so frustrated that I could not lose weight and keep it off.
It was depressing and embarrassing that I couldn't go swimming if I wanted because I felt bad about my looks. I couldn't wear my own cloths without feeling self-conscious about it. I would get on a diet plan, or diet pills, and Boom! I would be losing weight and feeling good about myself. But then I would stop taking the pills, I would get off the plan, and I would gain all that weight back, PLUS more.
Weight loss, in the context of medicine or health or physical fitness, is a reduction of the total body weight, due to a mean loss of fluid, body fat or adipose tissue and/or lean mass, namely bone mineral deposits, muscle, tendon and other connective tissue. It can occur unintentionally due to an underlying disease or can arise from a conscious effort to improve an overweight or obese state.
Poor management of type 1 diabetes mellitus, also known as insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM), leads to an excessive amount of glucose and an insufficient amount of insulin in the bloodstream. This triggers the release of triglycerides from adipose (fat) tissue and catabolism (breakdown) of amino acids in muscle tissue.
This results in a loss of both fat and lean mass, leading to a significant reduction in total body weight. Note that untreated type 1 diabetes mellitus will usually not produce weight loss, as these patients get acutely ill before they would have had time to lose weight.
When it comes to losing weight, the key factor is cutting calories. Unfortunately, this is where most people have the most trouble. Lowering your calorie intake often leads to feelings of hunger, which causes mood swings and lower energy levels. According to many weight loss gurus, feelings of hunger can be suppressed by drinking weight loss tea.
Weight loss tea is sold in many different varieties. These teas include green teas, herbal teas, Chinese teas and even the Oolong tea that is sponsored by Oprah. None of these teas have proven to be more effective than the others for weight loss.
Weight loss surgery, or bariatric surgery, has become a leading treatment of obesity in the United States. If you have tried to lose significant amounts of weight repeatedly and failed, weight loss surgery (WLS) may be an option. When complemented with dietary changes, exercise and counseling, weight loss surgery allows patients to lose pounds and maintain a healthful weight.
In addition to the normal complications and General Risks of Surgery, weight loss surgeries present their own unique set of complications and side effects. Learn more about the risks of weight loss surgery before you make a decision.
